James L. Montgomery, 68, of Laveen, AZ and formerly of Goodyear, AZ, passed away June 18, 2014 at home of natural causes. He was born February 26, 1946 to Lon Roy and Margaret Virginia (Carrico) Montgomery in Mayfield, KY.
Jim was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He attended an all boys catholic school and was an alter server. His family moved to Arizona in December of 1962, graduated from Agua Fria Union High School, attended Glendale Community College and joined the USMC on December 1964. Jim served with the 1st and 3rd Marines and did two tours in Vietnam. He served from 12/1/1964-5/29/1969 as an E-5 Admin Chief. Jim worked for AT&T for 26 years before retiring. He was an active member in the community.
Jim is survived by his wife Mercy Montgomery; sisters Judy Hicks, Deborah Alvarado, Cynthia Smock, Brenda Lundmark; and brother Lon Montgomery Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 9am to 10am, Rosary at 10am, on Tuesday, July 1st at St. John Vianney Parish, 539 La Pasada Blvd, Avondale, AZ 85338. Mass will be at 10:30am with burial to follow in procession to West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ 85301.
