Mrs. Ida “Sue” Fenner, 76, of Avondale, Arizona died March 11, 2022 in Avondale, Arizona. She was born May 3, 1945 in Portsmouth, Virginia to William Gilmore Bowlen and Luada Aileen Pritchett. She is survived by her daughter, Stacey (Bryon) Hemming; son David (Carol) Gregory; and her brothers Norman (Patricia) Bowlen, Richard (Denise) Bowlen, Sr., and William (Loraine) Bowlen, Jr. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Sue spent her early childhood in Portsmouth, Virginia with her parents and older brother, Michael. Her brothers Norman, Richard, and William were born while the family lived in California. While in high school, Sue was an active member of a gymnastics program. In 1963, Sue graduated from California Polytechnic in Long Beach. Her first marriage was to Robert Johns, and her second to Terry Gregory. She married the love of her life, Chuck Fenner, in Helena, Montana in the summer of 1980.
Throughout her life, she maintained her healthy lifestyle by active involvement in the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Program, eventually going from 276 to 145 pounds. Sue and Chuck also enjoyed boating on Canyon Ferry Lake. When Chuck passed away in 1987 due to illness, Sue did not give up. She continued being active in the TOPS program. In 2014, she moved from Montana to Arizona, where eating healthy and soaking up the sun became her lifestyle. In Bullhead City, she became a social butterfly. She loved to play “Hand, Foot, and Mouth” cribbage, and “pot-lucking” with all of her friends. In 2020, she relocated to Avondale, Arizona to live with her daughter. She loved “soaking up the sun” every day, reading, and getting pedicures.
A viewing and funeral service will begin at 6pm March 18 at Thompson Funeral Chapel.
