Eugene Louis Melton, 65, of Litchfield Park, died on May 5, 2013 in Goodyear, AZ. He was born on February 10, 1948 in Belvidere, Illinois to Benaiah and Rachel Melton. Gene, as he was known to many, graduated from Belvidere H.S. in 1966 and later, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from U. of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin in 1970. He was an exchange student at Monterrey, Mexico his junior year of College. He worked for Commonwealth Edison/Exelon for 31 years retiring in 2002. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gene received his first amateur radio license WB9CMB advancing his grade to extra in 1979 and receiving the call sign AK9N. He was a member of American Radio Relay League; and past member of Rockford Amateur Radio Assoc. and Wheaton Amateur Radio Club. Currently, he was a member of Tri-City Amateur Radio Club #10-10 International, Quarter Century Wireless Club Arizona ScQRPions and Flying piggies AK9N#878. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 918 S. Litchfield Rd in Goodyear, AZ.
