Electra Theresa Koeniger, 84, of Litchfield Park, AZ, went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2011 at Kindred Hospital – Phoenix Northwest in Peoria. Electra was 4th of 6 children of Adolph and Johanna Zelenevitz-Spacek, born in Dime Box, TX, on December 28, 1926, on the Spacek Estate at Old Dime Box. She attended school in Dime Box, graduating in 1943 as Valedictorian of the class. She and her husband, Dr. Peter Koeniger, lived at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, AZ.
Electra graduated from Scott & White Hospital School of Nursing in Temple, TX, in 1947. She furthered her professional career graduating from Charity Hospital School of Anesthesia in New Orleans, LA, in 1949 and worked at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA. Electra worked as a Nurse Anesthetist at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK.
Electra and Dr. Peter Koeniger, an obstetrician and gynecologist, married in 1960. Their daughter, Teresa Ann, was born in 1961. The family moved to Aberdeen, WA, in 1968. Peter retired in 1985, and the couple spent summers at Sudden Valley in Bellingham, WA, and winters at the Wigwam Resort.
Electra was an outstanding amateur golfer, competing successfully in US, state, regional and club tournaments. Her accomplishments include Anchorage Women’s Golf Assn. organizer & President; Championships: 47 Club, 12 City, 9 Alaska State (holds the record score – 305/72 holes, 1969), 3 Washington State Senior Women’s, and 6 Washington Tri-County. Electra made 10 Holes-in-One, 5 occurring in competition. In 1990, Electra was Club Champion at 3 clubs – Wigwam Country Club, Sudden Valley Golf Club, and Skagit Country Club. She holds the women’s course record (67 - 1965) at Moose Run Golf Club in Anchorage and at Grays Harbor Country Club (72 - 1974) in Aberdeen. Electra finished 13th in 1984 in the USGA Senior Women’s Championship in Tacoma, WA.
Electra was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Judith Pekar and Bernadette Reichle, two brothers, Sonny Spacek and Riney Spacek, and her daughter. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Peter Koeniger, and a brother, Woodrow Spacek of Dime Box, as well as her step-sons, numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. and Celebration of Life Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m on Friday, December 30, at Thompson Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 South Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ. Burial will be Tuesday, January 3 at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, WA.
