Marylyn was born on July 24, 1949 in St. Louis, Mo., to John and Ozzie Bolden. She was preceded in death by her parents.
After graduating from East St. Louis Senior High School in Illinois, she attended and graduated from Belleville (Illinois) Area Junior college and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIU-E). While at SIU-E, Marylyn pledged the Delta SigmaTheta Sorority and was an active member until she moved from Illinois in 1985.
Marylyn dedicated her life to helping others. She began her career as a Case Worker with the Illinois Dept. of Public Aid. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1985 to take a position with the Arizona Dept. of Insurance. In 1990, she returned to a Case Worker position with the Head Start Program in Phoenix, until she retired in 2009.
Marylyn remained quite active in retirement, going on field trips across the Southwest US, attending social functions at her local Senior Center and loved to play Bingo! She was very active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, serving as President of her local post for several years. She was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Outreach Ministries Church, where she volunteered for many activities.
Marylyn was the kindest, most gentle and caring soul to all who knew her. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Chara Lindsey of Phoenix; her grandson, Xavier Martinez of Phoenix; her sister, Petral Stephens of East St Louis, Il; four brothers, Malcolm (Barbara) Barnes of Tallahassee, Fl., Alvin & Calvin Bolden of East St Louis, and John (Renee) Bolden of Dunlap, Il; and a host of nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at New Jerusalem Outreach Ministries, 508 Clanton Avenue Buckeye, AZ 85326. Pastor Ellen Berry will officiate. Interment will be held Dec. 10 at Sunset Gardens of Memory in Millstadt, Il.
Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Az and Officer Funeral Home in East St. Louis, Il have been entrusted with arrangements.
