Ray Edward Stribling, 84, of Madison, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray Doud Stribling and Edna Harrington Stribling, as well as daughter-in-law Dana Light Stribling.
Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Shockley Stribling, as well as three children: Carey Stribling, Mark (Dana) Stribling and Tracey (Mike) Farr. Ray is survived by three grandsons: Tyler (Lauren) Stribling, Aaron Stribling and Shelby Stribling. Ray also had four great-granddaughters: Sam, Bella, Alexis and Avery.
Ray was born on Oct. 16, 1938. He was a graduate of East High School, where he played football. He counted several of his high school teammates as some of his closest lifelong friends. He went to play college football at Wyoming and Tennessee Tech.
Ray worked for the Metro Nashville Fire Department for over 35 years until his retirement in 1999. He rose to the rank of Captain and he served most of his career at Station 31 in Madison. Ray had a great impact as a mentor to a number of young firefighters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and a funeral service, officiated by Rev. Michael Farr, will occur Wednesday, July 19th at 10:00 am with burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 S. Dickerson Pike, Goodlettsville, TN.
