Ray Douglas Hyde, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024 in Pooler, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Margaret ("Peggy") Ann Brown Hyde; children Ray Douglas (Leslie Azia) Hyde, Jr., Teresa Hyde (Colin) Saxon, and Margaret Ann (Mark) Hacker; grandchildren Charles Ray (MeLissa) Hyde, Carl, Dora and Tristen Hacker, and Zachary Azia Hyde. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ellen Brown Schenk, brother-in-law Charles Leo (Donna) Brown, and many fond nieces and nephews.
Ray was born June 5, 1935 in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Robert Thomas and Della Mai Gower Hyde and is predeceased by two brothers Wilson Hyde and Edward Hyde and three sisters Mae Belle Inman, Evelyn Tubbs, and WylmothJean Hawkins.
A resident of Nashville, Tennessee, for more than 80 years, Ray was a long-time member of and served as an usher and Eucharist Minster at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Madison, Tennessee, where he was dedicated to providingcommunity service including feeding the homeless and volunteering at shelters. Always friendly, he never met a “stranger” because he treated everyone like he knew them. He served for many years as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loyal employee for decades at Methodist Publishing House, K&S Press, Harris Press, and Lithographic.
Ray was a passionate Vanderbilt Commodore sports fan. He inherited his family’s love of music and was a life-long guitar player.
He will be missed.
