Michael “Mike” Eugene Davis, 76, a native of Red Oak, Iowa, and a resident of Gonzales, LA passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, where he served a tour in the Vietnam War. He reenlisted and was Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps where he served a second tour of Vietnam. While in the service, he received a Rifle Expert Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and six overseas service bars. He went on to become a certified Merchant Mariner and Chief Engineer, working in the maritime industry for over 30 years before retiring. During his high school career, he cared for his mother. He enjoyed building things, telling stories, and making everyone he came across laugh and smile. He loved science fiction and anything to do with outer space. He absolutely loved Star Trek. Mike is survived by his son Michael Davis Jr. and his wife Sarah Davis; daughter, Tonya Keen and her husband Steve Keen; 4 grandchildren, Caze Duplessis, Dustin Butler, Natalie Babin, and Aliyah Keen; and a sister Shirley Ross. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack J. Davis and Lucille E. Mertz Davis; sons, John J. Davis and Lyn Butler; brothers, Jack Davis Jr. and Carl Davis; and sister, Barbara Templeton.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug 2, 2024 from 5 pm to 8 pm with Military honors at 6:30pm at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy Gonzales, LA 70737.
