Jonathan Christopher Dumas, born on December 16, 1994 in West Palm Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 1, 2021 at the age of 26. He was a proud resident of New York City, New York, a place he considered home. Jonathan grew up in Gonzales, Louisiana attending St. Theresa of Avila School and was a 2013 graduate of Runnel’s High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He then started his life in New York where he attended The New School - Parson’s School of Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design in 2017. From an early age, Jonathan’s passion and love of science caused him to constantly explore and expand his knowledge of the world. His passion carried over into his love of music. He learned to play the piano and was an accomplished violinist; where he became a valued member of the Louisiana Youth Orchestras for 11 years. Jonathan was an avid reader with an extraordinary ability to study cultures and interests in other languages.
When he entered Runnel’s High School, he began to expand his interest in the arts including, painting and other mediums leading to his interest in fashion where he often altered his clothing to suit his preferences. He began to realize his dream of becoming a fashion designer when he was accepted to The New School - Parsons School of Design. It was there that he excelled in garment and accessory design and construction, having learned initially to sew from his talented Abuela. Jonathan was an accomplished fashion designer with extraordinary craftsmanship skills. He had a passion for incorporating leather, other materials and unusual techniques in his brilliant designs. Jonathan was working to create his own fashion line of menswear, staying true to his aesthetics of uncompromising quality, design and attention to detail.

Jonathan worked as a tailor at Nordstrom’s headquarters in New York City from January to July of 2020, taught an accessory class at P.I Art Institute in addition to an internship in 2018 thru 2019. To help cope with the isolation and struggles the pandemic brought on, Jonathan rescued his dog Diesel who became his daily companion he adored. Jonathan also began to explore his culinary talents and found joy in growing orchids. Life in New York City can be hard, but he was where he wanted to be, doing what he loved.
At the time of his passing, Jonathan was working for personal clients he had built trust with through the years and had recently been accepted into the New York Costume Design Union. Jonathan was not only a very intelligent and creative person, but he was also deeply caring and loving. He was an advocate for human rights with a passion for free expression and acceptance. He loved fully and unconditionally, it always showed through his bright, beautiful blue eyes. Jonathan brought 26 beautiful, wonderful years of light to his family that loved him beyond measure. While those who knew him and loved him will hold him in their hearts forever, the world is a lesser place in his absence.
