Charles “Charlie” Hunt Jr., age 81, departed this life on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was a native of Buffalo, New York, and a current resident of Prairieville, Louisiana. We were fortunate he landed in South Louisiana!
Buffalo, New York could not reign his fierce longing to explore the world. Charlie left Buffalo to join the U.S. Army, taking their slogan “Be All You Can Be” very seriously. He quickly moved up as a Specialist in Chemical & Biological Explosive Ordnance Disposal, rising through the ranks during his 20 years of service. Sergeant First Class Charles F. Hunt, Jr. was called to duty for his country in 1965, serving in the Vietnam War, which he did so proudly. During his time in the U.S. Army, he was deployed to many different states and several different countries, which ignited a desire to learn other cultures – And his love for traveling began! Upon his retirement, he hooked up his travel trailer, heading out on his next adventure. He loved talking about all of his travels to anyone who would listen. It made him smile “traveling” down memory lane.
Charlie had the ability to repair absolutely anything. If he didn’t know how to fix it, google did; he would find instructions on the web, and the repair was made. He decided to try his hand at repairing cars, which grew into restoring old tractors then moving on to antique cars and trucks. Being outdoors was his haven. He was an avid gardener and loved to grill.
Even though his time with Dianne was short, they filled their days dancing, taking cruises, and entertaining family and friends. They had many happy times together and made many memories.
Charlie’s genius may have been silenced, but his knowledge will continue through his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of five years, Dianne Hunt; his family, Darlene Falcon (Chuck), Cathy Blanchard (Rudy), JoAnn Noel (Dwayne), Bro Caruso (Brenda), Melissa Giroir (Rocky), Mindy Caruso, Gwyn Braud (Troy), Brent Braud (Kim), Catherine Jennings (Tyler), Mary Mitchell (Jason); his grandchildren, Brad Guillot (Linsey), Cody Blanchard, Kim Waguespack, Amy Campbell (John), Chad Falcon (Nicole), Trey Caruso (Isabelle), Beau Caruso (Leslie), Breck Schexnayder (Jaci), Emily Caruso, Alyssa McVicker, Cali McVicker, Jamee Grace Rogers, Trase Ainsworth, Chase Gomez, Kimberly Peeples (David), Katie Mitchell, Nicholas Mitchell, Dean Braud (Kristin), Jenna Braud, Justin Braud (Sezen), Brandon Gleason (Claire), and his 22 great-grandchildren. Brother to Florence Baker (Larry), Deborah Della Penta, Patricia McKinsey (Keith) and Doris Maynard (Allen).
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Hunt, and Marion Hunt; his parents, Florence Hunt, Charles F. Hunt, Dorie Mae Hunt; his siblings, Robert Hunt, Judith Stetz; and his former wife of 24 years, Geri Caruso Hunt.
Charlie will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at the Port Hudson National Cemetery, 20978 Port Hickey Road Zachary, LA 70791.
