Dolores (Dee) Marilyn Lawson, 80, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016 in Denver, CO. She was born on September 11, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Eugene J. Mandl and Mary (Mitzi Neidorfer) Mandl.
Dee grew up in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Saint Aloysius High School in Kansas City, MO in 1952. Shortly after high school she married Gene J. Lawson on May 16, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. They were happily married for 46 years. She was a devout member of Saint Andrews by the Sea in Corpus Christi, TX.
Dee began a career as an amateur chef cooking for family and friends and later attended the Cordon Bleu in Paris, France and Denver, Colorado where she received several certification achievements in French cooking. She had cooking schools in Denver, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco, and had numerous cooking students from these cities. She had the honor of studying in Paris with Andre Parra, acclaimed chef and Maître Cuisinier de France, at his residence and restaurant.
She loved traveling, art, fine wine, delicious food, all animals, a good football game and time with her family and friends. She was an accomplished writer and had written several self-published cookbooks. She also began landscape canvas oil painting in her 50’s. She retired in Corpus Christi, TX in 2000. Dee was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Mary (Mitzi) Mandl, her husband Gene Lawson, and her son, Terry Lawson.
Dee is survived by her children; daughter Mary Joan Lawson of Lakewood, CO; her son Gary Lawson and his wife Rhonda of Lake Dallas, TX; her son David Lawson of Renton, WA; her brother John Mandl and his wife, Roberta of Holden, MO; her grandchildren Joshua Lawson, Brittney Lawson and Kevin Lawson.
A memorial service in celebration of Dee’s life will be held at Saint Andrews by the Sea in Corpus Christi, TX, Saturday June 11 at 1:00pm.
