She was the beloved wife of Francisco Figueroa. They both migrated to the US in 1946. Her career span included working as a floor girl in the garment industry and selling jewelry. After losing her husband in 1988, Emma devoted her retirement years to caring for her grandchildren both in New York and Florida.
She was a practicing Catholic and spent every morning sitting by whatever window she could find, reading spiritual affirmations, praying with her rosary, and listening to the Spanish news until it was time to prepare breakfast for whomever she was caring for. When she was not making breakfast, she was running errands, tending to her plants and flowers, and keeping track of time so she could prepare dinner for her loved ones.
Her later years were spent living with her youngest daughter in Glendale, Queens, where she continued to care for others until it was finally her turn to be cared for. Her daughter Rosemary and granddaughter, Jennifer, assumed the responsibility without hesitation and for 12 years provided devotion and compassion for "Mommy" and "Abuela."
Emma Figueroa was a month shy of turning 101. She is survived by one sister, her 4 children, 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Emma will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Daily Word Magazine at (https://www.unity.org/static/thank-you-supporting-our-work).
