Robert “Bruce” Scott, age 86, passed away on October 13, 2024 in Glendale, Arizona. He was born on May 8, 1938 in Phoenix, Arizona to Robert Scott and Aleen Mary Scott. Bruce being a native of Arizona thought of himself as a bit of a desert rat. In his earlier years, Bruce went to Glendale Unit 1 Elementary school and then to Glendale High School where his father Robert worked as a principle. There, Bruce became the Student body president and Valedictorian. After those accomplishments, he went to the University of Arizona where he got his Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Bruce worked at many Engineering corporations (Shell Chemical, AiResearch, Discom Chemical, Western Technologies, Honeywell and the State of Arizona Health Department as the assistant director (Bruce is responsible for the implementation of the Emission test program). Ultimately, he decided to pursue his dream and with 2 colleagues started Scott, Allard and Bohannan Inc. which was an engineering consulting firm. After retiring, he became his own boss with his own LLC consulting firm.
Church and religion has always been a part of Bruce’s life, beginning with his baptism on March 24, 1940 at the United Methodist Church in Glendale. His Confirmation was conducted on March 22, 1959 at Grace Lutheran Church. He became an active member in which he was instrumental in the building of the new church and sang in the church choir and Men’s octet for many years. Bruce had also played on the original Men’s church softball team as their 2nd baseman. Bruce became a part of the Church council for many years where he had held the President and Secretary offices.
On June 20, 1959, Bruce married the love of his life Jane Marie Weinberger at Grace Lutheran Church. He had met Jane in high school through her sister Arleen. They lived as Newlyweds in Torrance, California. There he began his first job out of college with the Shell Chemical Corporation. Bruce and Jane had just celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 20, 2024. Together they had 3 beautiful daughters, Kathy, Cindy, and Jody. Bruce loved being a husband and father. The birth of his daughters and their weddings were great milestones in his life. While Bruce loved being a father, he loved being a Bapa just as much. He would often help out in caring for all of his grandchildren. He loved watching his grandchildren play in football, basketball, dance, cheer, volleyball, and compete in photographic art displays. Bruce never missed an event involving his children and grandchildren. He coached his daughter’s softball team for many years. With Cindy being the “boy” he never had, she played for over 10 years. He then went and helped the coach at Oakwood Elementary with his grandson’s 8th grade boys’ softball team the year they won it all. He was the magic touch that they had been missing. Bruce’s children and grandchildren brought him so much joy.
Traveling had also become an important milestone in his life in which he had visited many different countries with his family and friends. Bruce had been on 22 cruises with Jane and extended family and 3 with his children and grandchildren. His dream of visiting Scotland to see the statue of “Robert the Bruce” his name’s sake, came true in 2018. He was able to visit the Edinburgh Castle, had his fish and chips and drank a pint at a Scottish pub. It was a memory of a lifetime for Bruce.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Jane, his daughters Kathy, Aufdemberge (Dave), Cindy Cordts (Todd), and Jody Biedenbender (Brett), his grandchildren Brad (Nathan), Krista, Mark (Andrea), Dalton, Kari and Conner, sister Tammy Pemberton and many brothers-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
