He was born on April 17, 1947, in San Jose de Reyes, Durango, Mexico. Ricardo graduated from Glendale High School and later received an Associates Degree from Glendale Community College. He was drafted into the Army and also served in the Army National Guard.
Ricardo, also known as “Rick” retired from the Arizona Department of Transportation after 30+ years of service. In his spare time, he participated in public appearances as an emcee for Danza Guadalupana “Los Matachines” as well as portraying the role of El Viejo. He was also part of the St. Charles Borromeo Bereavement group. He loved to read books and articles as well as write poems and sayings in calligraphy. He took up wood carving and was proud of his walking sticks which he gifted to family and friends.
Ricardo is survived by his wife of 48 years, Socorro N. Martinez, and their four children Blanca (Manuel) Loya, Ricardo Jr. (Guillermina), Guillermo, Guadalupe (Antonio) Loya, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nine siblings, Fidencio(Rachel), Ramon, Pete (Sonya), Jose, Roberto (Leesa), Mary, Jane (Lee) Ramey, Ruth (Fernando) Reyna, and Nellie (Ben) Andrade, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents Urbano & Ofelia Martinez, brothers Jose Ignacio & Alfredo and two nieces.
Services provided by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary with visitation being held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary located at 7924 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ from 5:00-8:00pm with rosary at 6:00pm. Funeral mass will be on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 5614 W. Orangewood Ave., Glendale, AZ with interment at Resthaven Park Cemetery 6450 W Northern Ave at 2:00pm.
