Larry Duane Johnson passed away on April 13, 2012 at his home in Glendale surrounded by family and friends. Larry was born in Phoenix, AZ on June 24, 1944 to Edgar Wayne Johnson and Joyce Marie Hupp. He lived in Arizona his entire life. He graduated West High School in 1962. He graduated Phoenix College and attended Arizona State University. He retired from Arizona Public Service after 32 years successfully managing several facilities, including Ocotillo, Childs/Irving, and Carol Mountain power plants. He lived for the outdoors where his hobbies included camping, flying, Hopi history, chess, ancient history, astronomy, and softball. The family cabin in Prescott was the perfect place for Larry to relax and show off his renovation skills. Houseboats and motor homes were at the center of longer trips that Larry loved. Larry's biggest passion was his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America. Larry was active in scouting for over 58 years. He earned Eagle rank and election into the Order of the Arrow in 1957 and as an adult served over 20 years as a Scoutmaster and held several District and Council positions. Larry was an extremely influential leader and mentor to hundreds of Arizona's youth, for which he received the Lifetime Service Award in 2003. Larry is survived by his wife: Carol; children: Jamie, Stephanie (Philip), John, Jeff (Brenna); brother: Gary (Mary); and his six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Larry, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home; 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ , on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm with service at 2:30 pm. Condolences may be offered at www.westresthavenfuneralhome.com.
