Donald Odell Tuttle was born September 3, 1932 in Burchfield, West Virginia. He grew up in Haymond Run, West Virginia, the son of farmers Robert and Clara Tuttle, and moved to Steubenville, Ohio in 1945. He graduated from Steubenville High School (Big Red) and joined the United States Airforce in 1950, where he served as a Sergeant in air sea rescue during the Korean War.
In 1952, he met Ruth Marie Harris, and they were married in March 1954. After he was discharged from the Airforce in November 1954, he worked in the steel mill, and in 1958 went to work for Delta Airlines, until his retirement in 1990. He worked at Great Lakes Naval Station for Delta and later moved to Lindenhurst, Illinois. While in Lindenhurst, Illinois, he served as an alderman and police commissioner and was very active in his community, coaching youth baseball and helping to establish the local Methodist Church. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1969 with his wife and two children. He remained very active within the Methodist Church, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Moose Club. He had a love for traveling, history, and baseball. He traveled all over the world, including Libya, Germany, Italy, Jamaica and Cuba and had many wonderful stories to tell about his experiences. He was an ever faithful Chicago Cubs fan and a lover of Louie Lamour and could never pass up the chance to watch a John Wayne film.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a wonderfully gifted storyteller. He loved to share tales of his barefoot days in West Virginia through all his years and experiences. He will be sorely missed by all family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Marie Tuttle, and survived by his children, Donald Wayne Tuttle (wife, Charlene Joyce Tuttle), and his daughter Verona Ruth Tuttle and grand children, Trevor Wayne Tuttle, Aubrey Marie Tuttle, Tyler Scott Tuttle, Sarah Elizabeth Tuttle, Christian Matthew Tuttle, and Zane Michael Tuttle.
