There was a time in Don’s life when he was called to Marshalltown, Iowa. This is where he met Harriet and fell in love with her and her two children, Monica and Joey, whom he adopted after he and Harriet were married. Don loved cars so much that he would build his own stock cars and race them; he was in the newspaper for being the number one driver in Iowa. They lived in Marshalltown for quite some time and had two more children, Jason and Jennifer (Kiki). In 1978, they decided to move to Arizona where they would open a car dealership to buy and sell cars together. Around 1984 Harriet and Don would decide to divorce and Don would travel back-and-forth from Iowa to Colorado working as a truck driver, when he would eventually decide that he would relocate to Arizona and retire to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. Don would continue to buy cars and campers off of the side of the road, and fix them up to resell. He enjoyed old country music, going to the casino and watching every documentary he could find on TV. He especially loved Saturdays so that he could watch his Iowa Hawkeyes play football.
He is survived by his loving companion of 17 years Shari Lillywhite children Jason, and Jennifer (Kiki), his grandchildren Shayna, JD, Wesley, Anthony, Kayla, Auston, Ashley, Matthew, and Joshua, his great-grandchildren Samantha, Jamie, Joseph, Anthony Jr, Melly, Kahlel, Annabelle, Jett, Kaylee, Raelynn, Juliet, Joel, and Jonah, his great-great-grandchildren Laylah, Emmanuel, Serenity and Isabella, as well as a number of extended family members. Don had many friends and helped a lot of people. We will all miss him very much.
Along with his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his children Monica and Joey, as well as his siblings Jack, Gordon, Juanita, Keith, and Eldon.
A visitation will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home of Glendale, Arizona on Thursday, October 10, 2024 beginning at 9:00 am, with a funeral service to follow starting at 10:00 am. A graveside service will take place after services at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
