The world lost a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Cheryl Ann Bongiovanni, on November 1, 2023. Cheryl, 75, of Buckeye, Arizona passed away in her home surrounded by her husband and children. She was born on January 4, 1948, in Murphysboro, Illinois. She and her husband resided and raised their four children in Oxford, Michigan before moving to Buckeye, Arizona in 2003. She held a variety of jobs from waitressing and bookkeeping to administrative assistant roles until she retired in 2001. She was most proud of her most important job; being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Cheryl was an avid reader and loved to play games and she was a fierce competitor when it came to Scrabble. She enjoyed baking for the holidays, crafting and quilting gifts for her loved ones, and most recently venturing to the casinos or bingo with friends. Throughout her life, she volunteered as a troop leader with Campfire or helped with book fairs and other various functions with the church; often the first one to lend a helping hand. She was resilient and determined. Her strength, her direct approach, and her indomitable life force enriched our lives. Cheryl and her infectious smile will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by her parents, Don and Doris Barnett, and her sister Donna Reynolds, Cheryl is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ron, and four children: Mary (Linza) Washburn of Webberville, Michigan, Robert (Kathy) Bongiovanni of Goodyear, Arizona, Julie (Mike) McNiff of Kansas City, Missouri, Rachel (Bryan) Rich of Buckeye, Arizona, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 15 nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends and loved ones during her visitation at West Raven Funeral Home in Glendale, Arizona on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Her wonderful spirit will be celebrated at Mass at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Buckeye, Arizona on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Internment will immediately follow at West Raven Cemetery in Glendale.
