Charlls, the son of "Barney" Elwood Vernon Wentz and Willetta Gail Wentz, was drafted into the Army and served as an Artillery Field Communications Crewman, earning a Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle) commendations. After being honorably discharged from the military as a PFC E3 in 1970, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Arizona State University. For 32 years, he taught at Harquahala and Arlington elementary schools in Arizona. He also drove a school bus, coached sports, and did maintenance work on the schools during the summer. Charlls was a member of the American Legion and Lions Club.
He enjoyed building and repairing things, woodworking, cycling, reading, fishing, hiking, gardening, and caring for stray cats.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th, a memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary at 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Wentz, and four adult children.
