80, slipped peacefully from our midst into the savior's arms Mar. 21, 2010. A proud Arizona native, Charley was born in Prescott Dec. 1, 1929 to Charles L. and Mary (Kutsche) Smock and has resided for the last 46 years in Phoenix, AZ. Charley graduated from Prescott High in 1947 and joined the Navy in 1950. He served six years as a Seabee in Okinawa and Guam. He received an electrical engineering degree from U of A. He met his life sweetheart, Alice Scott, while home on leave. They married in 1954 and remained married for 46 years until Alice's passing in 2000. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Alice, and granddaughter, Amy Jo Keller. Charley is survived by his 5 children: Mary Jo Keller, Terry DeValle, Tom (Lynda) Smock, Janice (Ed) Simpson and Chuck (Stacy) Smock; grandchildren Renee (Chris) Mason, Michelle and Jacob Simpson, and Natalie (Derek) Baziotis, Aaron, Andrew, Nathan, Tim (Ashley), and Jason (Jordan) Keller, Christina (Mark) Mann, Scott, Elizabeth and Ryan DeValle, Becky (Juan) Magana, Tom Jr. (Donna), Lucinda, Michael, Hannah, Charley Smock II, and Christopher Smock; and great grandchildren: Ali, Thomas III, Ethan, Monica, Frederick, Anthony, Maya, Baby Mann; and his sister, Martha Jean (Frank) Cvetkovich of Prescott, and nieces, Lynn and Kim Cvetkovich. More than anything, Charley loved spending time with his family. Charley retired from Salt River Project in 1989 after 29 years, serving as an Electrical Engineer and Senior Fuels Consultant. He remained active with many community and church volunteer projects including Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, Sts. Simon & Jude school board, Men's Club, PYO, Baseball/ Softball program, SSJ Fall Festival committee, Prescott reunion half century club, Prescott "Mafia," and many philanthropic interests. Charley defined what it means to be a friend, as he had lifelong friends from his childhood days in Prescott, former neighbors, coworkers, and church friends. His character, humor and love of people will be greatly missed. We will miss you Charley, Dad, Grandpa and dear friend! Visitation (6 pm) & Rosary (7 pm) will be held Mon. 3/29 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ. Funeral will be Tues. 3/30 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Simon & Jude Cathedral, 6351 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ.
