Carl was born on February 21, 1943 to Leonard and Guadalupe Phillips in Pinos Altos, New Mexico. As a child, he spent time at his Uncle Jess’ ranch, where he trained and cared for horses. Carl entered the Army in February 1960 at the age of 17 and was honorably discharged in March 1963. He was a proud member of Tempe Elks Lodge #2251.
He married the love of his life, Carmen on January 21, 1964. They have three surviving children; Joe A Phillips, Kevin S Phillips and April. Carl resided in Arizona from 1966-2023. He began his career as a Police Officer in Navajo County and shortly after transitioned to his amazing lifelong career as a Sales Engineer in the aggregate business. He loved camping in the mountains, riding his Harley, his dogs (especially Toby and Bud), Western and Sci-Fi movies, photography, playing his guitar, and welding. He loved the outdoors and was great at shooting pool, playing horseshoes and fishing. He had a great sense of humor and was a master of one liners. Pop was remarkably patient and had the ability to fix anything you put in front of him. He believed “if man can make it, man can fix it.” He is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside for Carl will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, Arizona.
