Tom was born on July 12, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Frank and Frances (Kobby) Tischinski. He attended De La Salle High School, graduating in 1962. Following high school, he was signed by the Kansas City Athletics baseball organization, beginning a 12 year career in professional baseball. Tom ultimately made his way to the Major Leagues, spending three seasons, 1969-1971, with the Minnesota Twins. Retiring in 1974, he spent 25 + years in the construction industry working for Dasta, Walton, and Lytle Construction, retiring in 2005.
Tom was married to the love of his life, Marilyn (Bell) Tischinski on January 22, 1966. Tom and Marilyn traveled all over the country following his baseball journey. Marilyn became an expert at packing everything they owned into the car and Tom became an expert at finding the best place to fish in the new town. They enjoyed their travels together, and most notably enjoyed meeting new people along the way.
Family was everything to Tom. Raising his two children and taking an active role in their lives was his first priority. Coaching everything from softball to baseball, basketball to soccer, he was always present in his kids’ lives. He emphasized education, and they are forever grateful for the role that emphasis played in their lives.
Tom also loved the great outdoors. Fishing was his favorite way to spend a weekend. Bass, crappie, trout, walleye, it didn’t matter, as long as he was on the lake, life was good. He enjoyed a round of golf with close friends and many golf trips were attended along the way. Pheasant hunting in Iowa with extended family created many great memories as well.
He was a loving husband and a great dad. He had a larger than life personality; and he more often than not was the life of the party.
Tom is survived by his beloved Wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Bell) Tischinski; loving Father of Tara Tischinski and David (Rachel) Tischinski; cherished grandfather of Holly, Hayley, Tommy and Brady; dear Brother to Cindy Anne (Brian) Russell.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, Frank and Frances (Kobby) Tischinski.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a contribution be made in Tom’s name to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
