Russell was born January 10, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas to Michael L. Voss and Letha P. Nelson. He went to St. Pius X High School and graduated with the Class of 1975. On October 22, 1981, he married Julie Ann Gibson in Liberty, Missouri and together they made Kansas City their home. Russell would go on to join the Kansas City Fire Department working for many years on the front line then moving to the Fire Marshalls Office where he would retire from. Russell started a second career with Gladstone Dodge within the Sales Department until early 2000’s. He would move on to a non-profit organization called Save-A-Child, where he wrote grants for the non-profit and helped photograph and fingerprint children for identification purposes for parents and police.
After final retirement he and his wife made time to relax at their second home on the Lake of the Ozarks with family and close friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Michael L. Voss; mother, Letha P. Hollingsworth; stepdad, George Hollingsworth; sister, Brenda Voss; daughter, Philomena Therese Voss; granddaughter, Calli Marie Voss.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Julie A. Voss; sons, Jarred Voss, Michael Devin Voss, Russell Voss, Jr., and J.D. Lundy; daughter, McKayla Voss; sisters, Diana Rè (Joe), Letha Voss, and Vickie Hollingsworth; brothers, Michael L. Voss and Ronald Voss, Sr.; grandchildren, Austin, Harlow, Lennox, and Declan Voss; and many extended family and close friends.
