Robert Patrick Mercer, beloved husband, father, and brother, was called to Heaven on Monday, February 23, 2015. Bob was born to Loralei (Sherman) and John Mercer on December 19, 1955. On December 17, 1983, he married Elizabeth Anne Ahern; she survives at their home in Liberty, MO. He also is survived by sons, Brandon Aaron Mercer and Brian Phillip Mercer; grandson, Zachary Aaron Mercer; siblings, Joy Mercer Corbin and Elizabeth (Brad) Lower; nephews, Jacob Corbin and Jordan Lower; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one younger sibling, James Ray Mercer. Bob was a member of the US Navy for six years. He was a Petty Officer 3rd Class, serving as a sonar technician on submarines. After an honorable discharge, he worked as an aircraft journeyman painter at North Island in San Diego. Bob then began what would become a career of 25 years in safety. He worked 22 of those 25 years for OSHA as a safety compliance officer, first in Ankeny, IA, then St. Louis, MO, and eventually in Kansas City, MO. He retired from OSHA in 2007 and accepted a position with the city of Liberty as a building inspector. Later he resigned that position to work for the Parks and Recreation Department. In October of 2014, he retired to spend quality time with his family. Bob had a zest for life that was unparalleled. He thrived on adventure and never met a stranger. Bob loved his Lord and did his best to share and live the Gospel. He was active in his church and in the community; however, his family was his priority, and his love and devotion to them were recognized by all who knew him.
