Laurie, AKA “Laaauuurie!” and/or “Piglet” Johnson Frost Brown left this world to be with Jesus on January 24, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and beloved friends. Laurie was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Beverly and Kenneth Johnson on February 28, 1954, the youngest of three daughters. Laurie attended Oak Park Senior High School in Gladstone, Missouri her junior and sophomore years and graduated from Winnetonka High School Kansas City, Missouri in 1972. After graduating, Laurie went to work as a drafter at Evans Engineering in Liberty, Missouri. In 1978 Laurie was hired by the City of Liberty as Animal Control Officer, a job in which she thrived and loved. There were many unfortunate circumstances that she encountered in her job, but the benefits of helping animals find their forever homes outweighed all the adversities.
In 1988, after 10 years as Animal Control Officer, Laurie transferred to be the Code Enforcement Officer where she stayed until 2018, retiring after 39 years of service to the community of Liberty. Laurie had immense artistic abilities painting watercolors and pointillism. She painted and updated the City of Liberty’s historical vault. Her other interests included her love of her fur babies, Scruffy, which she rescued from the shelter, Cookie, Bunny, and Fuzzie. Laurie is survived by her sisters, Marylee Harris and Alice (Phillip) Kitterer, five nieces and nephews, April (Mike) Semanko, Kenny Harris, Julie (Lee) Bailes, Jaime (Bill) East, and Jodi (Jeff) Boring, eight great nieces and nephews, one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Laurie’s best friends, Wanda Jack and JoAnne Mudge, for all their help in caring for Laurie in her last days. The family are especially grateful for the love and care that was given by the employees of Crossroads Hospice Care in making Laurie’s journey comfortable and pain free.
It is the families’ wish that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Liberty Animal Shelter via Katherine Sharp, Liberty City Hall.
