Larry Kenneth Childers of Kansas City, Missouri passed away December 24, 2015. Born to Margaret and Harry K.Childers in Kansas City, Kansas on February 25th, 1941. Married to Dolores (Dee) Calhoon on August 29, 1961. Larry is preceded in death by his mother and father. He leaves behind his wife Dee, his daughter Michelle-partner Amy Kirkendall, son Bart-daughter in law Spark Childers and his Shining Star-granddaughter Alexandra Childers. Brothers David and Phil Childers-sister in law Margaret, sisters Merilee Edson and Carolyn Hemann-brother in law Paul. Sister in law Pat and brother in law David Cady and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. He held a degree in Business from Park University and a Masters in Religion from Graceland University. He was a lay minister with the Community of Christ Church from the 1960's and held many leadership positions as a lay minister throughout his life and became a full time minister from 1974 until 1979 and returned to full time ministry in 1996 until his retirement. Larry started his professional life with Proctor and Gamble in 1965 in Des Moines Iowa and continued as sales manager in Milwaukee from 1969 to 1974. He also served as CEO for Merle Harmon's Fan Fair from 1979 to 1984. He and his wife Dee, formed Venture Resources, a retail and franchise development/consulting firm which they shared responsibility for until Dee's retirement and his recent illness. He had a great love for his hometown of Kansas City and upon returning to Kansas City in 1986, he had a growing involvement in civic endeavors,including serving as president of the Briarcliff Alliance/Northland Neighborhoods for the last several years of his life. He also served on a variety of civic groups including Forward Kansas City. An avid golfer, Larry enjoyed playing courses across the US and was a long-time member at Painted Hills Golf Club. Larry and Dee shared a lifelong love of the southwest, especially the four corners area. They spent every chance they had jeeping and hiking in those areas. Larry faced cancer resolutely for the last twelve years of his life. His graciousness and continuing zest for life strengthened all those close to him. He will be missed immeasurably.
