He was a 1952 graduate of Northeast High School. John entered the United States Marine Corp shortly after graduation. He was stationed state side for the duration of his service due to the loss of his brother, Dale Hodges, in the Korean War on March 9, 1953.
During his brief stint as a hairdresser he met Patricia Shupp over the shampoo bowl. Together they shared 64½ years of marriage.
They were blessed with three children: Jeff Hodges (Sherry) of St Joseph, Cindy Mayden (Russ) of Carrollton, and Terri Newton (Bill) of Kansas City. He will also be dearly missed by his six grandchildren, four great grandchildren with the arrival of a fifth one soon, and his beloved cat Fancy.
John worked as an NDT Inspector for Trans World Airlines (TWA.) He retired from employment with TWA in 1992 after 36 years. During this time, he and his wife traveled many places and created great memories with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his brother, his parents, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2 PM Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the First Christian Church in North Kansas City, (2018 Gentry St., North Kansas City, MO 64116.) John has been a member of this church for sixty plus years. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 PM. The funeral, with Masonic Services and Military Honors, will be held immediately following.
