Jewel was born on June 11, 1949 in Marshall, MO the daughter of Raymond W. and Gladys N. (Becker) Craig. She lived near Arrow Rock, MO until 9 months old when they moved to Syracuse, MO. They later moved to Smithton, MO where she graduated high school in 1967. She attended college at CMSU at Warrensburg, MO.
She was a very beautiful intelligent, outgoing, and talented young person until she became disabled in her early 20’s. She sang in a madrigal group in high school and played the piano for her local church. She had a good Christian upbringing and this was important in her life. After entering the nursing home life, her favorite activity was reading.
Jewel developed cancer in her mid 60’s. After surgery and radiation, that seemed to be behind her. All checkups came back negative. In the fall of 2018, her health took a sudden downturn. Tests and labs showed the original cancer had metastasized to her liver. Jewel did not want to follow through with aggressive treatment.
Survivors include one sister, Madge Newport and her husband, Larry of Gladstone, MO; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
