Bonnie D. Senter (Edgell) was born December 11, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Everett Edgell and Leila Maureen Edgell (nee Collins). She passed away on June 4th, 2024, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, and friends.
Bonnie was raised in Kansas City and graduated from North Kansas City High School, and she later attended classes at UMKC. She married the love of her life, Steven E. Senter Sr., on March 9th, 1968. The two had grown up together; he was her best friend’s big brother. Family was the center of Bonnie’s life. She was deeply attached to her brothers and her parents, and Steve’s family was just as much her own. She gave birth to her first child, Steven E. Senter Jr., while Steve Sr. was away in the Navy. The couple lived in Virginia during his service before returning home to Kansas City, where their two daughters, Amy and Amanda, were later born.
For many years, Bonnie dedicated her time to her children’s activities, leading Brownies and Girl Scout Troops and serving alongside her husband in AWANA. Her lasting impact is evident as those children, decades later, still speak fondly of Bonnie’s leadership and love. She and her husband were also long-term members of Tower View Baptist Church. Bonnie was the queen of party planning and held an ornament party each Christmas deemed legendary among family and friends. She mostly enjoyed encouraging partygoers to steal each other’s gifted ornaments and compete for their favorites – the rowdier, the better! Party games were a specialty of Bonnie’s, enjoyed by her children and grandchildren on their birthdays, particularly trivia based on the guest of honor. Bonnie would never let a birthday go uncelebrated.
When Steve Sr. started his own accounting firm, Bonnie worked alongside him, providing accounting and tax services. She looked forward to tax season each year to catch up with clients and get the news of their lives and families. Numerous genuine friendships were forged from business relationships, which continued after Steve Sr. passed away and the business transitioned to his son. Bonnie stayed on and worked through the 2024 tax season, ending just before she became ill.
Bonnie is survived by her three children, Steven E. Senter, Jr. (Jennifer), Amy, Amanda (Wade) Kidner, and former daughter-in-law, Jill Fanning. She leaves six grandchildren she adored: Chase, Abbot, Cody, Nick, Maddie, and Lyss. Bonnie is also survived by her brother, Steve Edgell, and sisters-in-law Cristeena Ficke (Bob), Eilene Senter, and Karen Edgell; one Uncle, Jim Edgell, and countless nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.
