He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Gaigneur), his siblings, Joseph, Anthony, Archie, Willie, Mariah, Lucy and Madeline and his wife Wilhela (MacKinnon).
He is survived by his beloved partner Lorraine Abbott; his loving children, John Andrew (Valerie), Elizabeth, Stephen (Allison), Joseph, Jason (Rasha) and Will Abbott, as well as his many adored grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters Mary Campbell, Ann Pasher, and brothers Alex and Peter McNeil and his many nieces, nephews who all loved him dearly.
Johnny Peck was born in Reserve Mines and was a coal miner/electrician at 26 Colliery for most of his life.
He was involved with the Kinsmen and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Glace Bay town councillor for many years, a baseball coach and an entrepreneur; running many small businesses throughout his life.
In earlier years, he loved to go to the bungalow to enjoy hunting, boating, and guitar songs around a bonfire and in later years a fun, competitive game of cards, while enjoying the peaceful view of the Mira.
Johnny had great natural music ability and could play any instrument he picked up and was known for his guitar playing, and passed this musical ability on to his children and grandchildren.
To those who knew him and could get through his sometimes stubborn ways, once you were in his clan, blood relative or not you were family. Johnny Peck had a big heart, was very loved and will be sadly missed.
A visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home, on Monday April 11, 2022, from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm, with a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Ann’s on Tuesday April 12, 2022 at 11:00 am with Fr. Devereaux officiating.
