Born in Glace Bay on June 24,1924, he was the son of the late Robert and Abby (Wilson) MacPherson. He married Olive Smith in 1947 and together they made their home on Blackett St. Glace Bay.
In his earlier years Clair was employed with Thompson and Sutherland and Highland Motors. He was also a member of the Glace Bay Fire Ward Committee.
Clair was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind, patient soul who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures life had to offer. He had a passion for boats and would often spend time at the harbor watching the fishing boats come and go; or in the barn building his replica fishing boats.
Clair loved to spend time with his family and extended family. He and Olive loved to pack their lunch and take day trips around the Island or visit family in Bras d’or and Mira. Clair and his son John, enjoyed a special bond, it was a relationship like no other. Not only were they father and son, they were best friends and you would rarely see one without the other. He also shared a similar relationship with his grandsons, Michael and Shawn; he was so proud to be able to watch them grow into young men.
Clair is survived by his son John and his wife Janet, Glace Bay; grandsons, Michael and Shawn. Also surviving is his brother Stuart, Bras d’or and sister-in-law, Shirley MacPherson, London On; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Clair was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Olive; his brother Eric, his sister Betty MacDonald and his sister-in-law, Ruby MacPherson.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday Nov. 3,2015 from 6-9pm at Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday Nov. 4,2015 at 10am in St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
