It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, Edward Yates, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends on October 18, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late David and Phillis (Davies) Yates. He was an avid sportsman, an outdoors man who loved to fish and hunt and also loved animals, he was a hard worker who loved his family and valued his friends and was always there to lend a helping hand. He lived for several years in Connecticut with his sister Lilly where he made many good friends. He loved to fish with his brother David in the Mary Joseph River in Framboise where he spent many hours enjoying the tranquil nature around him.
Edward is survived by daughters Corinna Yates (Steven Billard), Sherry Yates (Jeremy Bond), Maxine Yates(Melvin Wadden)April Yates, all of Glace Bay ,sons Danny Yates (Kelly Kayter) Wade Yates, sisters Joyce Debison; Ont, Lilly Brock (Richard) Conn. USA, Barbara Hart (Courtney) Sydney, 13 Grandchildren, 4 Great grandchildren, also Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by wife Sharon (Burgess) Yates brothers Kevin, David and Dennis in-infancy sisters Phyllis Yates and Gail Doucette.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, a memorial service will be held on Monday October 22, 2012, at 2:00 pm for both Edward and his wife Sharon, in Patten Funeral Home Chapel; 71 Union St., Glace Bay .Online condolences can be made to the family at www.pattenfuneral.com

We would like to take the time to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the 3rd floor Glace Bay General and also to the Palliative Care nurses that came to the house for there care that was given to DAD.
We do not die, our spirit lives on in those we leave behind.
