It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kaye MacDonald, 92, on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Frank Dan and Catherine (MacLeod) MacKenzie.
Kaye spent her married life in Glace Bay where she was a former member of Newsom United Church, Glace Bay and a UCW member.
Kaye was a caring and compassionate mother and nurse graduating from the Glace Bay General Hospital in 1947 and continued nursing (officially and unofficially) for the rest of her life. She began nursing in Inverness and had placings in New York, Sydney Steel Plant and finally back at the Glace Bay General. Kaye enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whether hosting “Club” card games or heading to Boulardarie for family outings. She always had a basket of food and a packet of Mentos mints for anybody who will take them.
Kaye will be sadly missed by her sons, Glenn and Gary (Barbara); grandchildren, Andrew (Shannon), Christopher, David (Samantha) and Amanda Rayner; great-granddaughters, Lilly and Tessa MacDonald and many special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Kaye was predeceased by the love of her life, husband, Murdock, in 1991; her brother, Rod MacKenzie; sisters, Chris Crompton, Anna Clyburn and Marion MacKenzie.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, from 12-2 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Family flowers only.
At this time the family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Alderwood Rest Home for the extraordinary care and love given to Kaye over the years.
