Jim "Butch" Gable June 11, 1943-January 4, 2023 Jim "Butch" Gable, 79, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday January 4, 2023. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, from 3-6p.m. and the funeral service will be Friday, January 13, at 2:00p.m., both at Gering Memorial Chapel with Trevor Jacobs officiating. Jim was born on June 11, 1943, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to parents Harry and Marge Gable. He received his early education in Gering, Nebraska, where he graduated high school. He married Mary Kotik (Gable) on October 13, 1961, in Fremont, Nebraska, and they made their home in Gering, Nebraska. They worked in various cities around the country later returning to the valley in March of 1999. Jim has been in the Gering community for the last 24 years. Jim had a love for camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed giving back to his community and was involved with Gering and Ogallala's fire departments. He was involved with the Chamber of Commerce and rotary clubs in various cities around the country. He was very involved with his growing family and high school friends.
He is survived by his children: son Mark "Marty" and Cheryl Gable, daughter, Jana Alvey, and son, Micheal "Mike" and Karolyn Gable; Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his two brothers.
