Thomas Avery Diaz IV

Thomas Avery was preceded in death by his younger brother, Christoper Angel; his paternal grandparents Thomas and Irma (Sanchez) Diaz; his paternal Grandfather, Ronald Sharpe. Thomas Avery is survived by his parents, Thomas and Melissa, of Georgetown, TX; his brothers, Gabriel, Corwin, and Joaquin, are all at home. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Jack, and Gloria Johnson, Georgetown, TX; his Godparents, Matt Johns of Georgetown, TX, and Cyndi Diaz-Spalding of Lorton, VA; many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends; and his beloved dog Lumi.

Thomas Avery graduated from Stony Point High School with a Distinguished designation in 2015, where he was a member of the JROTC and lettered in Athletics for Football and Lacrosse. He attended Sul Ross University upon receiving a Rodeo Scholarship and pursued a degree in Agriculture before transitioning to Criminal Justice. While attending Sul Ross University, Thomas Avery began working for the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office and earned his Texas Corrections Officer License. Upon receiving a job offer from Burnet County Sheriff’s department in 2020, Thomas Avery moved to Marble Falls. He became a first-time homeowner at the age of 24. Thomas Avery was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and had been a member of Explorer Post 911 from Round Rock, TX. He learned many skills as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, including GSARRS, Emergency First Response, and MCI. Thomas Avery used this training to help save a family from a fire in February 2022. He was awarded the Recognition for Extraordinary Personal Action for this life-saving act by the Burnet County Sheriff’s department. Because of this experience, he wanted to transition careers again into becoming a trained firefighter. Thomas Avery wished to be of service to his community always.

As a child, Thomas Avery learned the value of working hard and being outdoors, often helping his father mend fences and caring for the animals on the family ranch. He was always known for going the extra mile for everyone around him and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Thomas Avery was loved by so many. His positive outlook, generous spirit, and kind heart left an impression wherever he went. Thomas Avery never met a stranger that didn't quickly become a friend; he always went out of his way to help anyone in need and had an incredible work ethic that will forever be remembered. He was an excellent reel and rod fisherman and enjoyed teaching his brothers how to catch fish and learn to enjoy the natural waterways of Texas. His brothers’ were his first and best friends. They may have annoyed and quarreled with each other, but above all, he was always there for them when it counted. Thomas Avery was a mentor and hero to his younger brothers.

Thomas Avery’s greatest wish was to become a provider for his own family someday and make his family proud. To all of us who knew him, he was always there for us, one indication that you were in need and he would be with you in a heartbeat. In this ever-changing world, he was our constant. His death will never change that fact. Thomas Avery was always himself, authentically and unapologetically. He didn’t let anyone define that he should be someone else. His family is proud of the person he was becoming.

Thomas Avery meant more to his family than he ever understood. Please join us as we celebrate his short but beautiful life on Saturday, Jan 21st, at 11:00 am at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, of which he was a member, in Andice, TX, for the Funeral Mass, followed by a small memorial ceremony at 1 pm at the Oaks in Sun City, 301 Del Webb Blvd., Georgetown, Texas 78633.
