Ruth Ann Davis, 99 years old, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at her home in Georgetown, Texas. Her daughters, Beth and Kathryn Ann, were with her as well as her beloved caretaker of many years, Jose Mares.
Her mother, Kathryn Kuykendall Nowlin, grew up on a ranch in Cherokee, Texas, graduated from Southwestern University and was a teacher in Taylor. Her father, Bethel Nowlin, graduated from Georgetown High School and went on to play football at Southwestern University. He owned and managed a farm on Highway 29 east of Georgetown. The farm was the location of the family home where Ruth Ann grew up. His father, Ruth Ann’s grandfather, was a doctor in Georgetown in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and made his house calls in a horse and buggy.
Ruth Ann graduated from Georgetown High School where she was voted Band Sweetheart. She graduated from Southwestern University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She taught Spanish and business at Georgetown High School for 2 years. She married Armistead “Armpy” Fisher Davis when he returned to Georgetown following his service overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II. They were married for 53 years, until his death in 1998.
Ruth Ann and Armpy were the owners of Davis Funeral Home (now Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home on Williams Drive) and Davis Furniture Store which was located near the square at the former site of the Georgetown Public Library. Ruth Ann worked as manager for both businesses.
Ruth Ann and Armpy raised two daughters who both graduated from Georgetown High School. Kathryn Ann Davis Wilson (KaKa) graduated from UT at Austin and Beth Nowlin Davis Lenz graduated from TCU in Ft. Worth.
Ruth Ann adored her loving family including 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Kathryn Ann, a retired rental property owner, was married to former Williamson Country Judge Don Wilson for 39 years until his death in 2017. They have one son, Matthew Wilson, who graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a minor in Spanish. Matthew teaches and translates Spanish and English.
Beth, former owner of Davis Lenz Media, has been married to Bob Lenz, an attorney in Dallas for 32 years. Beth was blessed with 2 step-daughters and 4 grandchildren with Bob: Leisha Lenz Ehlert (husband Kris, children Elle and Eli) and Jennifer Lenz Gleaton (husband Brandon, children Gage and Georgie Jane).
Ruth Ann became a member the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown at age 7 and remained active until her health and mobility prevented her from doing so. She was a Sunday school teacher, led Bible study groups, and helped with new member recruitment. She was a former president and member of The Woman’s Club and active in numerous other organizations. Ruth Ann was an accomplished pianist and played for many activities in Georgetown. After retirement she volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown. She enjoyed and excelled in playing bridge throughout her life.
Ruth Ann’s love of life and her vibrant, energetic personality will be greatly missed.
