Gilbert Herman Silva, of Belen, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2015 in his daughter’s home in Texas, at age 83. He was born in Belen, New Mexico to Salvador and Maria P. Silva.
Gilbert entered the US Army at age 19. A decorated soldier he served in the Korean War and twice in the Vietnam War. He retired from the army after dedicating 30 years of service, after which he was employed by the State of New Mexico Corrections Department.
Gilbert was extremely loving and proud of his family. He was a dedicated husband of 63 years to Betty J. Silva and a devoted father of seven children, 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Silva of Georgetown, Texas; his children, Gilbert Anthony and wife Adriana Silva of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sharon Salas and husband Leo Sandoval of Santa Fe, New Mexico, George Silva of Belen, New Mexico, Greg Silva of Tucson, Arizona, Paul and wife Angel Silva of Belen, New Mexico, and Monica and husband Isaac Cosme of Georgetown, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Andrew R. Silva and daughters-in-law Nancy Silva and Joann Silva.
A Liturgy Service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas. Visitation with family and friends will beThursday, April 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas with Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. Interment is at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
