Ben was born on August 14, 1956, to William Robert Hicks and Janet Swindler in Lubbock, Texas. After Ben graduated from Killeen High School in 1974, he had a long-standing and successful career of over thirty years as a Meter Reader.
In April 2023, Ben retired as a Meter Reader with Atmos Energy and moved from Kerrville to Marble Falls with his loyal pug of ten years, Smedley. Ben enjoyed taking walks and many road trips with Smedley by his side. He also enjoyed live folk and country music, and spending time with close friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, William and Janet, and brother Michael. He is survived by his nephews Zane Hicks of Bertram, Texas, and Max Hicks of Austin, Texas; niece, Shawn Moore of Grand Prairie, Texas; and great-nephews, Carter and Deacon Hicks of Bertram, Texas, Wade of Grand Prairie, Texas, Tyler Hicks of Austin, Texas; great-niece, Brooklynn of Austin, Texas, Macy, and Lillian of Grand Prairie, Texas. Ben also leaves behind his beloved pug, Smedley.
A graveside service for Ben will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Saint John's Cemetery, 2071 Westinghouse Rd, Georgetown, TX 78626. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pug Rescue of Austin, an organization Benny held dear to his heart.
