Ardith Dee Lane nee Wilson, 79, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on October 29th, 2020 after a battle with lung cancer. She was born July 21st, 1941, in Ogden, Utah, and grew up in Perryton, Texas, where she graduated high school in 1959. She attended Kearney State Teachers College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney) before moving to Austin in the early 1960s. She worked in various administrative capacities for a number of entities, including the State of Texas, for several years afterward. In 1965 she met Wilson Gregory “Greg” Lane, and six months later, on September 24th, they were married. She was a field hire to go alongside Greg in the Central Intelligence Agency in 1966. They lived in Fall Church, VA DC before being stationed in northern Thailand during the Vietnam War. They spent three years there as covert analysts tracking movements across Laos between North and South Vietnam. After their commissions, they traveled around the world before returning to settle in Austin. They lived there until 1994, when they moved to Georgetown, where she lived until her passing.
Ardith again worked in administrative capacities for the State of Texas until 1980, when she gave birth to a son, Bradley. She transitioned into a full-time homemaker – a mother, a caregiver, and an ardent supporter of her son, her husband, and her family. She was heavily involved in St. Francis school and with the Georgetown high school golf team while her son was there. She was also a full-time caregiver to Greg as his health declined, and tended to him through his passing from lung cancer in 2008. Later that year, mom found a wonderful calling and community, becoming involved with First Presbyterian Church, first as an attendee, and then later as a Circle member and leader, which she continued in for the rest of her life. She was admired for her thoughtfulness, leadership, and engagement with others, and made many good friends.
Her life lit up yet again with the arrival of her granddaughter Ruby in April 2019. She loved being a grandmother; she adored and doted on her as best she could from a distance, and nothing lit her up like seeing and being with Ruby. She was looking most forward to the arrival of her grandson and namesake Wilson next month.
Ardith was an athlete her whole life; she played basketball in high school, and was an ardent sports fan. Her favorite sport, however, was golf, and many happy times and memories were shared with the family and friends playing together, and with taking Bradley to golf tournaments and following him through high school, college, and afterward. She became expertly astute at current events and finances, and her memory of her adventures and stories she shared was encyclopedic. She was a fearless, determined lady, who was also limitless with her kindness, friendship, and generosity. She fiercely loved her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, and all her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dena and Dale Wilson; her husband, Wilson Gregory Lane; her nephew, Marshall Mounts; and close family friend Joanne Millican. She is survived by her son, Bradley Wilson Lane, daughter-in-law Anna Marith Burns Lane, granddaughter Ruby Magnolia Lane, and soon-to-arrive grandson Wilson Burns Lane, of Lawrence, Kansas; brother Dale Wilson and wife Betty, of Round Rock; her sister, Sharon Mounts, of Garden City, Kansas; nephew Del Ray Mounts, Jr, of Wichita, Kansas; close family friends Corey Rogers of Cedar Park and John Millican of Temple; Godson John Silas Millican of San Antonio; and numerous other dear friends.
The family would like to extend its sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff of Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital, Austin Regional Clinic, Compassus Hospice, First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas Oncology, and Visiting Angels for their care and consideration given to mom over the last several months, as well as Vicki Louise Burns for her essential and selfless care in the last weeks of her life.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 6th, at Cook Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 7th, at the IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown, where she will be laid to rest next to Greg. A celebration of her life will follow at her home.
