Vera Stewart Robertson

Vera Stewart Robertson was born December 8, 1921 in Waynesville, North Carolina, the third of four children to the late Lillington E. and Rosa (Shular) Stewart. Her father was a poultry farmer, and her mother lived to be 103. Mrs. Robertson graduated from Winecoff High School and later took business courses. She worked at F.W. Woolworth as a window decorator, for Johnson Furniture Company in the office, and Cannon Mills in bookkeeping, all in Kannapolis. She then worked in payroll with Trans World Airlines in New York City. She moved to Gastonia and worked with Smith Textile Apron Company as secretary and office manager from 1935 until her retirement in 1983.

Mrs. Robertson married her next-door neighbor, John C. (Cap) Robertson in 1966. He was a retired army captain, and preceded her in death September 8, 1994. Mrs. Robertson was a member of National Secretaries Association, having served as President of the local chapter and State Treasurer. She had been a member of Gaston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she served as President-Elect and President; and was an honorary member of Gaston Country Club. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she had been secretary to the congregation and Lector Scheduler.

Mrs. Robertson is survived by one daughter, Toni Noblett of NYC; two grandchildren, Casey Noblett Callahan (Dan) of Cary, NC, Cassidy Noblett of Los Angeles; two great-grandchildren, Ava-Maria and Senzie; sister, Fran Bostian of Landis, NC.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Shinn and brother, Jack Stewart.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 19 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gastonia. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Covenant Village, 1351 Robinwood Rd. in Gastonia.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Covenant Village or Gaston Hospice.
