Merle Ramsey Smith

A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Mildred Mauney Ramsey.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son, Larry Smith of Winter Park, Florida; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wilds Smith of North Vernon, Indiana; six grandchildren, Andrew Levi Smith, Judah Adam Smith, Benjamin Kyle Smith, all of Winter Park, Florida, Canaan Lee Smith of Nashville, Tennessee, Leah Katherine Melone and husband, Stefen of Williamsburg, Virginia, Christopher B. Miller and wife, Jen of Sarasota, Florida; five sisters, Mary Handsel, Jewell Brown, Judy Matthews and husband, George, all of Stanley, Virginia Nixon of Boger City, Freida Pendleton of Gastonia; two brothers, Rev. Paul Ramsey and wife, Gerri of Mendenhall, Mississippi and Mike Ramsey and wife, LeaAnn of Dallas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert B. Smith; grandson, Nathaniel Reid Smith; and brother, James Carroll Ramsey.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Lutheran Church with Pastor George Rhyne officiating.

Burial will follow at Antioch Garden of Peace.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
