A man who Loved Jesus…. A man who Loved and was Proud of his daughter, son in law and grandchildren… These were the traits that most importantly formed the character of Mark Anthony Sheridan, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62 at his home on Friday, January 1, 2016. Those who knew Mark best remember he loved fishing, was a beach guy, enjoyed his rum and coke, known to his family as “The Grill and Smoker Master” and was a hard worker. Mark was a man who wasn’t selfish with his time and was a very giving friend. Mark was a retired United States Army Staff Sergeant and a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Mark was the son of Ramona Ann Wheelen Sheridan and the late James Richard Sheridan He was also preceded in death by his wife Annette Tina Smith Sheridan who passed away on May 17, 2015.
Those left behind to cherish Mark’s memories are his daughter and son in law: Kimberly Green and SSgt Leroy Green (USMC) of Richlands, North Carolina; three beautiful and precious grandchildren; Abigail Rose Green, Leroy Green III and Colton Hood; one sister: Barbara Craig of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; five brothers and three sisters in law: James Sheridan, Jr. and Cindy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michael Sheridan and Elaine of Streator, Illinois, the late David Sheridan, Patrick Sheridan of Leander, Texas and Matthew Sheridan and Donna of Windermere, Florida; three stepsons and two daughters in law: Joey Hood and Lauren of Mooresville, North Carolina, David Winecoff of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, T.J. Winecoff and Gina of Charlotte, North Carolina;
brother in law: Robbie Smith; his former wife, friend and mother of his daughter, grandmother of their grandchildren: Lisa Sheridan of Nashville, Tennessee. And not to forget his faithful dog “Sophie”.
Funeral Service and Celebration of Life with Military Honors accorded by the Gaston County Honor Guard will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Cowart officiating. Active pallbearers are SSgt Leroy Green USMC, Major Jonathan Craig (ret.) United States Army, and Mike Sheridan, Jr. United States National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM prior to the service.
A private scattering of Mark’s remains will occur at a later date.
