James "Stan" Grogan

A big man but very gentle… A man who loved to flatfoot dance and enjoyed bluegrass music… These are just a few qualities of James “Stan” Grogan who passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the age of 87. Stan enjoyed hunting and building for his family. Stan proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn Lackey Grogan; his parents Grace Goodman Grogan and David Franklin Grogan; sister Frances Grogan; brother Glenn Grogan; granddaughter Jana Lingerfelt and great grandson, Cooper Grey Hinton.

Those left to cherish his memories are his four daughters and sons in law: Stana Ware and Miles, Janet Ellis and Rusty, Kathy Lingerfelt and Keith all of Gastonia, Marilyn Rhodes and Terry of Simpsonville, South Carolina; two sisters: Ella Mae Parsons of Yadkinville and Allene Ross of Port Charlotte, Florida; four brothers: J.D. Grogan of High Point, Gene Grogan of Hudson, Ray Grogan of Greensboro and Max Grogan of High Point; ten grandchildren: Caylea, Elaina, Melanie, Ashton, Cameron, Peyton, Matthew, Justin, Kara and Brandon; fourteen great grandchildren: Greyson, Connor, Basia, Brina, Brooklyn, Cole, Anistyn, Ariyah, Edwyn, Aydan, Lena, Makenna, Brenton and Bryson.

The Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 PM, Saturday, October 31, 2015 in the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend Mark Lackey, his nephew officiating. Active pallbearers are Brandon Ellis, Justin Lingerfelt, Peyton Ware, Brandon Reagin, Matt Lingerfelt, Cameron Ware, Blake Hinton and Mike Winston.

Family will receive friends from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the ceremony.

The Funeral Procession will be traveling to Hillcrest Gardens, 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Highway, Mount Holly, North Carolina for the interment and Military Honors to be accorded by the Gaston County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be given in Stan’s name to the Cleveland County Rescue Mission.

The family shares a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Carolinas Medical Center’s Neurosurgical ICU Team.
