Robert F. Dunbar of Lockport, NY died on March 13, 2019. He was 92 years old. Bob was born in 1926 in Gasport, NY, the son of Frank R. Dunbar and Mildred Whitcomb Dunbar. In 1949 he married the former Margaret Farley. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this June.
Bob graduated from Gasport High School in 1944 and went to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. His education there was interrupted by World War II, and he served in the US Army in Europe. On his return he attended General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, graduating in 1952. Bob was employed at Harrison Radiator for 40 years in sales and service.
Bob was an active member of Ridgewood Bible Church for most of his life, serving throughout the years as worship leader, choir director and choir member, youth leader, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and elder. He also served as song leader at Niagara Bible Conference. He was a member of Gideons International for 54 years. He was a member of the Lock City Glee Club for 41 years, serving as president for 2 years. And he served on the Newfane Board of Education for 15 years, 3 of those as president.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Dunbar; his daughter Marci (Kent) Brittin; sons, Mark (Donna), Rick (Chris), and Craig (Carolyn) Dunbar; 13 grandchildren: Christine Corcoran, Kimberly and Valerie Brittin, Michele Bishop, Benjamin and Kirsten Dunbar, Kyle, Paul and Chad Dunbar, Michael and Joel Fink, Ariel Guido, and Morgan Dunbar; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Richard, his son Curtis, and his grandson Russ Dunbar.
Friends may call at Ridgewood Bible Church, 7073 Ridge Road, Lockport, NY on Monday, March 18th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00. The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 19th, at 11:00 at Ridgewood Bible Church. Arrangements are by Sherrie Funeral Home. Interment will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery.
