Zelma Jones Hill, age 94, of Mount Olive, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. We are comforted to know she is now with our Lord and Savior, she is again healthy, her fun-loving spirit and sense of humor that were largely stolen by dementia have been restored and she is reunited with loved ones that passed on before her. These include her husband of 63 years, Dr. John W. Hill, her parents, Dewey and Willie Jones of Kimberly, her brothers, Ray Jones of Gardendale and Alton Jones of Morris.
Survivors include her daughter, Miriam Hill Moore (Randy) of Mt. Olive, grandson, Andrew Moore (Alyssa) of Mt. Olive great-grandson, Brooks Moore, sisters, Ruby Wade of Northport and Thelma Conwell of New Orleans.
Zelma was an active member of Gardendale Mt Vernon UMC (Hope Church) while her health allowed. She volunteered at church, various schools, libraries, and girl scout troops over the years. Her work history included the US Postal Service, Bessie Mines, US Pipe and Foundry, and Sloss Sheffield, before ultimately retiring as secretary for atty. G. Thomas Sullivan. She was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, and anything her grandson was involved in.
Special thanks to those that helped care for her the last several years, including the loving and compassionate people at Self Skilled Nursing in Hueytown and Journey Hospice.
A private service will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, followed by her burial at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
