William “Ray” Owen, 81, of Remlap, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at his home on November 19, 2024. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, on November 22, 1942, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a beloved member of his community.
Ray, known for his quiet strength and unwavering work ethic, was a skilled jeweler and accomplished businessman of many trades. Over the years, he built a reputation for quality and dedication, leaving a legacy that impacted all who worked with him.
Outside of his professional life, Ray had a deep passion for building vintage motorcycles, often spending hours in his workshop to bring his creations to life. As a younger man, he also enjoyed raising horses and other livestock, an endeavor that reflected his love for nature and the animals he cared for deeply.
He was preceded in death by his two children, Lisa and Michael, and is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susanne Owen, his son Tony (Beth), and his cherished grandchildren, Owen and Sophie. Ray is also survived by his brother, Tommy Owen (Linda) of Locust Fork and sister Polly Owen Stewart of Childersburg, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A selfless and caring man, Ray was known for the love and devotion he showed his family. His spirit of generosity, kindness, and dedication will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of his life will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel on November 25, 2024 with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
