From a young age, he had a passion for the outdoors and sports. He was known as Bill to most everyone, Bubba to his loving family, and Bo to his dear grandchildren. Bill was a devoted member of Gardendale First Baptist Church, where he faithfully served leading Life Groups, and serving in the Children’s Ministry alongside his wife. At former churches he served as a driver for Bus Ministries, serving as a deacon, playing guitar in the worship band, using his talents on mission trips. He was known for his strong personality and natural leadership abilities, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. Bill had a passion for hunting, often sharing memorable excursions with his daughter Megan. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing and was an avid fan of Alabama football, cheering passionately for his favorite team.
Bill was preceded in passing by his father, William R. Baker, Sr.; his mother, Gladys Irene Baker; and his sisters Darlene Sexton and Debbie Baker.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Ann; his loving daughter Megan, her husband Skye and their children; Leah, Rosie, Gabe, and June; his brother in law, Bobby Putman; his nephews Scott Putman, Chris Putman, and Wayne Sexton; as well as a wide circle of friends who will miss him dearly. His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration Bill's life will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Bill will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
Bill's spirit and the impact he had on others will be remembered fondly and cherished forever.
