William Harold Adair, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2024. Harold was born September 25, 1935, in Toccoa, GA to Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur Adair. He was a lifelong resident of Fultondale and a contributing member of the community as the longtime owner of Adair Tire Company. He was also a well-loved member and deacon at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church. Harold married Lola Jean Gober in June 1963, and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. He was known for his love of country, his family, farming, and most especially his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Harold’s love for his country led him to enlist in the US Army in October 1954. During his three years of service, Harold was assigned to Company B 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat) where he served as a Combat Engineer while stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged from service at the rank of Specialist (SP-3) in October 1957.
Besides keeping busy with Adair Tire Company, Harold enjoyed farming with his father and brother in the Corner community, raising cattle and mending fences. Harold and anyone who worked with him on the farm experienced the sweat and backaches from cutting and baling hay, especially the square bales.
In service to his Savior, Harold volunteered as a Discovery Club mentor teaching Biblical truth to children at Fultondale Elementary, giving them the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. He also participated in many domestic (Builders for Christ) and international mission trips focused on starting and expanding churches. Harold was a member of The Gideons International, and he loved distributing Bibles to as many people as possible and sharing the organization’s mission.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Winnie (Wiley) Adair; his sister, Barbara Willoughby; and his great-grandson, Isaiah Lee Dietrich.
Harold is survived by his wife, Lola Adair; children: daughter, Carol Tavatli (Daryoush); daughter, Lee Stancil (Trey); son, William Harold (Hal) Adair, Jr. (Stephanie); brother, Slick Adair (Freida); brother-in-law, Joe Willoughby; sister-in-law, Dorothy Goodwin; grandchildren – Shabnam Dietrich (Chris), Mina Tavatli, Trace Adair (Ashley), Tanner Adair, Weldon Stancil, Celeste Adair, and Isabella Stancil; and great-grandchildren – Aiden Dietrich, Landen Sandlin, and Noah Dietrich. He is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
The family wishes to thank ACG Hospice and all of the Care For Me team, especially Sandy, Magan, and Sherry, who provided exceptional and compassionate care.
Harold will be laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Willoughby, Adam Adair, Lee Graves, Weldon Stancil, Trace Adair, and Tanner Adair.
