Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 15th, 2012. Richard was a member of Gardendale/ Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School and a weekly Bible study class. He was a retired Baptist Minister, serving several churches in North Jefferson County; and, he was currently teaching Sunday School Classes at Covenant Place and Magnolia Ridge, as well as leading worship services at Covenant Place on Sunday evenings. Richard retired after 32 years from Sloss Industries, and retired as co-owner of Lewis Flower Shop after 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Ruby Waddell; Baby daughter, Sherry Waddell; daughter, Lynelle Hallmark Rice; granddaughter, Tiffany Rice; and brother, Carl Ruben Waddell. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Wanda Lewis Waddell; 3 sons: Richard L. Waddell, Jr. (Rose), David Lewis Hallmark (Leah), and Greg M. Waddell (Lynn); 3 daughters: Elaine Hallmark, Marcia K. Gillian (Rick), and Rhonda W. Ritchey; 12 Grandchildren: Brandy Ennis, Cameron Marsh, Jennifer W. Griffis (Jonathan), Amanda Waddell, Allan Waddell, John Salter (Lindsey), Mark Waddell (Kristin), James Ritchey, Savannah Rice, Myranda Rice, Katherine Vann (Jonathan), and William Gillian; 6 great grandchildren: Jessica Ennis, Jake Ennis, Ethan Waddell, Mayer Waddell, Adalyn Waddell, and Joshua Gillian-Vann; 2 great-great grandchildren: Camira Ennis and Athena Ennis; sister, Barbara Helms; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Gardendale/ Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church beginning at 2:00 PM, officiated by Dr. Bill Wolf and Reverend Jeri Hunt. Grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
