Richard Lawrence Gardner joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on October 1, 2022. Born January 25, 1947, Richard lived a full life of 75 years. Richard lived in Smoke Rise, Alabama, however, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his beloved life partner, Priscilla Park, on her farm in Wetumpka, Alabama.
Richard was a graduate of Ensley High School and went on to attend college at Jacksonville State University before joining the Army.
Richard served honorably in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) in 1969.
For distinguishing himself by meritorious service, Richard was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for his courage and expertise leading South Vietnamese troops.
After his military service, Richard attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Richard enjoyed a career as a Comptroller for the Alabama Power Company until his retirement.
In addition to his endeavors on the farm, Richard derived great joy in his hobbies of treasure hunting with his metal detector, yard sales, flea markets, and car shows with his restored 1955 Chevy.
Richard was preceded in death by his Father, John William Gardner Jr., Mother, Ada Noblitt Gardner, and sister, Jackie Gardner.
Richard is survived by his brothers; Ronald E. Gardner (Nancy), and Robert W. Gardner (Kip), his sons; Scott Lawrence Gardner, Jeffrey Richard Gardner (Mandy), Timothy William Gardner (Shannon), his grandchildren; Reaves Gardner, Grace Gardner, Lawson Gardner, Reese Gardner, Finley Gardner and Mara Gardner and many nieces and nephews.
The Family will hold a Celebration of Life for all friends and family on October 22, 2022 from 2-4pm at the Morris Senior Center.
